Brigand Five: An Unflankable Story
Namas & Xieth Hestral
Namas and Xieth Hestral were born on the small island of Ja'thorane. Namas was five years Xieth's senior, but the two were close. When Namas was twenty years old, Mount Kha'thorrid erupted. The village had always had a safeguard in place in case such an event occurred, so there were no casualties. What they didn't realize until later was that an aboleth had taken residence deep within the volcano. Its presence corrupted the mountain itself, and when the tainted ashes rained down on the village, a terrible sickness took root. Many perished, including the Hestral's parents. The village was forced to evacuate the island.
The tragedy had different effects on the two siblings. Namas took to leading the fragmented population, making many key decisions to help them survive and relocate. Xieth, however, became obsessed with the plague that decimated her people. She began studying disease lore, learning she could harness the power to manipulate and manifest diseases. The siblings both enjoyed their power immensely, and as they delved further into their passions, they grew apart from one another. Eventually, Namas discovered Xieth carving the symbol of Vholpest into her forehead. Disturbed and taken aback, Namas confronted his sister. As a result, Xieth left her brethren and wasn't heard from for years.
Namas led his people across the sea and were welcomed to the tiefling city of Moroth. In their libraries, he researched the glyph on his sister's forehead, learning that Goulos Vholpest was the creator of plagueomancy and that carving the symbol onto one's skin enhances the channeling of disease manipulation. When odd outbreaks and diseases started popping up in various lands, Namas feared his sister was behind them. He tried to ignore the tragedies, but each new incident worried him more. When the heroes took the fall for one of Xieth's massacres by a potentially corrupt council, Namas realized that he could no longer hold his reputation above his sister's havoc.
